13 Things Not To Do On Facebook

Many business owners know by this point that having an online presence is crucial to their long-term success. But it’s not enough to have a website if you want to interact with potential customers – you also need to create a Facebook account. Facebook is easy to use, but companies of any size can go overboard, get carried away, and make mistakes. Are you doing something that could damage your reputation and anger the Internet population? It’s not too late to prevent problems. The information below will help you avoid several common issues.

1. Don’t Ignore Complaints

No matter how badly you wish you could, it’s not possible to stop people from saying bad things about your business. The best thing to do is respond in a kind, respectful manner and give people the information they need to correct something.

2. Don’t Post Too Much

As important as it is to update regularly, you shouldn’t overdo it. If you post too much, people will consider you a spammer. Go for quality over quantity.

3. Don’t Forget To Watch Posts and Comments on Your Page

Should you fail to pay attention to what people are saying on your page, you will look like you don’t care. Customers will move on the competition, and you don’t want that to happen. Be as active as you can. If necessary, hire an employee to watch the page and respond on behalf of your business. This will save you from stress in the long run.

4. Don’t Neglect Meta Descriptions

Meta descriptions have a tendency to add visual clutter. Remove the clunky text and add a relevant quote from the article you’re linking to.

5. Don’t Make a Personal Profile instead of a page

Facebook pages are for businesses, and Facebook profiles are for people. Nobody can “like” a profile.

6. Don’t Write Lengthy Posts

As a general rule, keep it short. If you give your followers too much to read, they will lose interest.

7. Don’t Use Images of Bad Quality

Pixelated, jagged, and fuzzy images will do you no favors. You will only look unprofessional in the end.

8. Don’t Post Images Exclusively

Images are good, but they shouldn’t be the only thing you post on your page. It used to be that images were getting the high quality of engagement, but these days, video is key to any good social media strategy too. Make sure to circulate some videos!!

9. Don’t Use Click-Bait Tactics

You want to grab attention, but you shouldn’t lie when you link to a website or blog post. This will only cause annoyance.

10. Don’t Limit When You Post

Don’t stick to posting during business hours. You’re not the only one in an office. Post when people are home. You could get more comments and shares. Posting before people are in the office or later in the evening are great times to hit people. Try testing different post times and see what works most efficiently for your business.

11. Don’t Hesitate To Try New Things with Ads and Targeting

Step out of your comfort zone. Don’t throw your budget at Facebook and expect something magical to happen. You need to experiment and try something different.

12. Don’t Create Two or More Accounts

You will only make things confusing for you, your employees and most importantly your clients. Creating one business page is more then enough, even if you have different aspects of your business. Brand unification is important.

13. Don’t Lose Track of What Account You’re Logged Into

This could lead to a PR disaster for someone who manages more then one business page (i.e. marketing and social media manager or business owner with multiple businesses).
